Attorney Tom Grieve is an ex-criminal prosecutor who now leads the largest criminal defense firm in Wisconsin. He is a former instructor, competitive shooter, and a relentless 2nd amendment advocate. Tom has been interviewed and appeared in numerous media outlets, ranging from the New York Times, CourtTV, Fox News, Reuters, Washington Post, National Public Radio, Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, among many others. He is a frequent Continuing Legal Education course speaker to teach and update both lawyers and judges in developments in the law in the 2nd amendment and deadly force space, in Wisconsin and nationally. Tom also gives presentations on self-defense topics both in Wisconsin and to audiences around the country at expos and seminars. Tom has also contributed to the national conversation in writing on emerging legal topics and has been published in Conceal Carry Magazine and elsewhere.

hi there! i’m a recovering ladder-climber living in new york city and trying to live my best life despite anxiety-fueled cuticle destruction and a tendency to dive into rabbit holes head first. as a sixth-year associate, i jumped off of the high-paying biglaw conveyor belt in 2022 to pursue writing and more creative endeavors. as an immigrant and the first lawyer in my family, i was surprised by so many things throughout life, my education, and legal career. i'm here to demystify the things i do know about (e.g., the ivy league, what being a lawyer is like) and contemplate the things i don't know about (e.g., how to be alive). i’ll also share my journey leaving the safety and stability of biglaw. enjoy!!

I decided to go to law school at 50 years old. For 25 years I lived in Nashville, Tennessee, and worked as a professional singer while owning various businesses as well as being the director of a non-profit organization focused on international missions. In 2021, I moved back to Texas to be near my family and help with aging parents. That's when I realized that this new season of my life also brought the perfect timing for me to fulfill a lifelong dream of going to law school. I will share the experience with you here so ask any questions you may have. I spend my time either in school, with my family, trying to catch up on sleep, or at my church where I am a worship leader. Occasionally I find the time to do something purely social but for the most part, I choose to be social within all of these things that are non-negotiable duties in life right now. All you need to know is that law school later in life is not only possible but you can do this and thrive! ~Vanessa Maddoux
