When a daily walkaround flags a defect on an A Series truck, Hyster manual protocols mandate immediate tag-out, key removal, trained mechanic repair, and a trained operator test drive before return to service.

During the daily pre-shift inspection of a Hyster H40A, H50A, H60A, or H70A internal combustion forklift, finding any condition affecting safe operation requires immediate removal of the truck from service. Under Hyster Guide 8000 SRM 2689, the operator must immediately fasten a DO NOT OPERATE tag to the controls and remove the key. Maintenance and repairs must be performed exclusively by trained mechanics using Hyster Approved Parts, engine diagnostic tools are restricted to licensed or certified personnel, and the mechanic must be a trained operator to conduct the post-repair test drive before the unit is returned to service.
Conduct the required pre-shift inspection before the start of each work shift on the H40A–H70A truck. Inspect the items specified in Hyster Guide 8000 SRM 2689 (PDF page 30): operator protection equipment, fork condition and wear, tire condition and pressure, fluid levels, fuel levels, battery condition and electrolyte level, steering, controls and instruments, overall cracks/damage/leaks, brake operation, and lift mechanism operation. If any condition affecting safe operation is found, stop immediately.
Take the truck out of operation immediately. Fasten a DO NOT OPERATE tag directly to the controls of the unit and remove the ignition key (Hyster Guide 8000 SRM 2689, PDF pages 2, 30). This tag-out isolates the machine while the finding is communicated to maintenance or an authorized Hyster dealer.
Assign maintenance and repair work exclusively to mechanics trained in safe lift truck maintenance and repair practices (Hyster Guide 8000 SRM 2689, PDF page 26). When engine diagnostic tools are needed, only licensed or certified persons can use diagnostic tools (PDF page 2). If facility personnel lack the knowledge, equipment, or tools, utilize an authorized Hyster lift truck dealer (PDF page 26).
Install only Hyster Approved Parts meeting or exceeding original equipment manufacturer specifications (Hyster Guide 8000 SRM 2689, PDF pages 2, 27). Before returning the unit to service, the mechanic must be a trained operator in order to conduct the post-repair test drive (PDF page 26). Return the truck to service only after all defect conditions have been corrected (PDF pages 26, 30).

Hyster A Series internal combustion pneumatic forklifts (models H40A, H50A, H60A, and H70A, with rated capacities from 4,000 to 7,000 lbs) are configured with Yanmar 2.1L Diesel or Yanmar 2.2L LPG engines. Maintaining safe daily operation across these units requires conducting a thorough pre-shift inspection prior to the start of each work shift.

If any defect affecting the safe use of the forklift is discovered during the pre-shift walkaround, the operator is required to take the truck out of operation immediately. Tag-out and key removal ensure the machine remains out of operation until proper repair is completed.
